Privacy Policy
Last updated October 19, 2026.
Moxie Recipes is made by Jakie Studios LLC, the makers of Moxie Vino and Moxie Menu. This policy covers the Moxie Recipes iPhone app and this website. Plain version: we collect what the app needs to work, we do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising.
What we collect
- Your account. An email address, and a name and profile photo if you sign in with Google or Apple. With Sign in with Apple’s hide-my-email option we only see the relay address. One account works across Moxie Recipes, Moxie Vino and Moxie Menu.
- Recipes you save. The links you share or paste, the photos you take of recipe pages, text you type or paste, and the recipe we make from them: title, ingredients, steps, the creator’s name, a link back to the original and its thumbnail image address. Your notes, edits, collections and when you cooked something.
- Your household’s grocery list. The items on it, who added them and who ticked them off.
- Your preferences. Your units (US, metric or UK, °F or °C) and how many your household cooks for.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription, handled through Apple and RevenueCat. We never see your card details.
- A device identifier. Used only to allow one free recipe before you create an account, and to stop that being abused.
- Crash and error reports. Technical diagnostics when something goes wrong.
What we do not collect
No location, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking. We never download or store the videos you share: only the recipe text we make, the link and the thumbnail address. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
How a shared link is read
When you share or paste a link, our server reads that public page to find the recipe: for TikTok and YouTube that includes their official public lookups, which return a video’s caption, creator name and thumbnail. If a website won’t answer our server, your phone loads the page itself, the same way a browser would, and sends its text to our server to read. Those sites see an ordinary request for the page you chose.
What goes to the AI
Moxie Recipes uses Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, to turn captions, pages, photos and text into recipes, sort your grocery list into store aisles, and suggest a wine. The app asks before the first time anything is sent, and you can turn it off in the app under You → AI features. When you use those features, our server sends Anthropic:
- The caption, description and page text of the link you shared, or the photos and text you gave the app.
- Grocery item names, to sort them by aisle.
- For a wine suggestion: the recipe and the bottles in your Moxie Vino stash, if you use Moxie Vino.
Your name and email are never sent. Anthropic processes what it gets only to return the result and, under their commercial terms, does not use it to train their models.
Your household
Recipes and the grocery list belong to your household. Everyone you invite into it can see and edit them. Nothing you save is public, and recipes are never shared outside your household.
Who else is involved
- Supabase: database, sign-in, and file storage.
- Anthropic: the AI that reads recipes, sorts lists and suggests wine.
- Apple: the App Store and all payments.
- RevenueCat: keeps track of subscription status.
- Google and Apple: only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
Each of these services only gets what it needs to do its job, and is bound by its terms with us to protect your data with the same or equal protection described in this policy.
How long we keep it
Your data stays until you delete it or close your account.
You can delete your account any time in the app under You → Delete account. That removes your account, your preferences and your cooking notes straight away, and disconnects Sign in with Apple if you used it. Recipes and the grocery list stay with the rest of your household if anyone else is in it; if you’re the last member, they are deleted too. Moxie Recipes, Moxie Vino and Moxie Menu share one sign-in, so this deletes those accounts as well. You can also email hi@jakiestudios.com to close your account and we will delete your personal data within 30 days, apart from anything we have to keep for tax or legal reasons.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hi@jakiestudios.com. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under the GDPR or California law; we apply the same process to everyone regardless.
Children
Moxie Recipes is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you in the app. Questions go to hi@jakiestudios.com.
